Shadowing English speaking practice at B1 and B2

At B1 and B2 the vocabulary is mostly familiar and the speed is not. Intermediate English speaking practice is about closing that gap, and shadowing does it faster than any other drill because you speak at the speaker's tempo, not your own.

  • Stop translating mid line. A pause to check a word kills the rhythm, and the rhythm is what you came for.
  • Shadow the joins: going to becomes gonna, want to becomes wanna. Connected speech is what makes fast English hard to follow.
  • Try the line at full speed first, slow it down only when it refuses, then bring it back up.
  • Mix a conversation clip and a lecture clip in one session. They break your fluency in different places.

What B1 and B2 clips give you

This is the largest part of the catalogue: real conversations, interviews, lectures and scenes, all graded B1 or B2 by CEFR and all with a transcript.

  • Natural speed, unedited. This is how English sounds outside a coursebook recording.
  • Longer lines, which is where breath control and sentence stress start to matter.
  • A mix of accents and formats, so your listening does not overfit to one speaker.
  • A clear next step: advanced English shadowing at C1 once full speed stops being the obstacle.
