What is shadowing, exactly?
You listen to a short piece of native speech and repeat it out loud almost immediately, copying the speaker's rhythm, stress and intonation rather than translating word by word. It is a standard training method for professional interpreters, and it is the fastest way to turn English you understand into English you can say.
Do I need to be advanced to use it?
No. Videos are labeled by level, from beginner to advanced, and you can slow any segment down. Shadowing works at every level. The difference is only which clips you practice on.
How is the pronunciation score calculated?
Your recording is compared against native pronunciation and scored on accuracy, fluency and completeness, for the whole line and for each individual word. Words that miss show the syllable that went wrong.
Can I use the app in my own language?
Yes. The interface is available in 16 languages, and subtitles show English with your language underneath.
Is it free?
You can practice up to 15 lines a day for free, with the full video catalog and bilingual subtitles, including a few AI-scored lines each day. Pro removes the daily limit and scores every line.
Is it on Android?
Not yet. SpeakFox is iPhone only for now.
