Listen to the line, then say it out loud
Full transcript
- Oh Everyone who is watching this With this group in particular they are all about discomfort Ah seeking discomfort.0:37
- This is not for everybody Don't do this at home directly like copying don't do it these guys are experienced You He's able to withstand Extreme cold this guy runs0:59
- to the top of Everest is under with he says it's easy experts of baffled How is he able to survive whim half or as some of you may know1:27
- him the ice man He might well be one of the most unique humans currently alive for the past 20 years He's been breaking countless endurance records mostly around his1:36
- ability to resist extreme cold temperatures From spending nearly two hours submerged in ice water without his core body temperature changing to climbing past the death zone of Mount Everest1:47
- barefoot wearing nothing but shorts or running a full marathon in the desert of Namibia Without drinking water He's surpassed what anyone thought the human body was capable of Over2:01
- and over now for a while That's what he was known for as the ice man the freak of nature who breaks impossible records But after a series of independent2:13
- scientific studies, he's proven that with his specific training We're all capable of pushing our minds and bodies way past what was thought possible Thank you And he calls it2:23
- the whim half method How is it possible for a human being to be exposed in an ice bath for one hour and 44 minutes?2:36
- Whim Hof is changing scientists Understanding of how the body works He recently shook the scientific community after injecting himself and a few of his students with the form of2:44
- an infectious E.2:55
- Coli bacteria.2:56

- We saw less fever.2:57
- He had less flu like symptoms And he also had lessened concentrations of inflammatory proteins in his blood together They fought off the disease to breathing and meditation both of2:59
- which are major pillars of his method leaving the world confused and us like many others Fascinated while Whim may seem superhuman and a total anomaly to the human race3:10
- There are now millions of people around the world practicing his method His records and his life raises the question What if there is a world of untapped potential and3:21
- all of us just waiting to be released an ability to tap into Deeper parts of our brain to regain control and willpower over our own bodies and do things3:34
- We never thought we were capable of Before and so after meeting Whim and LA a few months ago and hearing about all his claims We were fully intrigued by3:43
- the possibility of unlocking our full potential We felt like we had no other choice but to fly out to his training camp in Poland and experience it in person3:51
- Our goal was to understand whether Whim is simply a madman with superhuman abilities Or whether he has actually made a groundbreaking discovery about what the human mind is capable4:00
- of We brought a group of friends and filmmakers to help capture the process and even though we arrived in Poland with over three years of Experience and seeking discomfort4:11
- none of us could have expected the wild journey for answers We were about to embark on and it begins Fommels yes, oh he has a starter yet.4:18
- I don't have to wear a t -shirt.4:28
- You can wear a jacket Well, I'm a meeting we haven't done like the breathing area.4:29
- I went on a run last night.4:33
- Sure.4:35
- Let's tackle me.4:35
- This is good They turned off the heaters at midnight last night and then it progressively kept getting colder and cold I was like wow, I was freezing.4:36
- Yeah, my feet are freezing.4:46
- We're not in the snow yet.4:48
- We're gonna be walking Talking about would be cold Zack how are you you're refusing to kind of show any emotion about everything that is said and everything that is4:49
- happening I'm just patiently waiting just because someone's message is good doesn't mean that the messenger themself is like anything special He said you have to fully believe in order5:00
- for it to work That's me I'm a simple man yet I'm going to change the world We are made to believe that a whole lot of things a whole5:08
- lot of crap is normal like war and disease and mental disorders It's made sort of playful like yeah, that's life life.5:22
- It can be a tough bitch and all that shit I don't believe that within four days.5:32
- I will bring you guys into a State of mind more than ever you have experienced before Making you able to go in very stressful environments like a freezing cold5:38
- mountain Frozen over in short for hours in four days.5:53
- It's not like a training it's awakening and In this awakening we show the world that we have so much more power Already here right now and it needs just5:58
- a couple of steps to discover When it comes to climbing the mountain What kind of gear are we gonna have?6:11
- Yeah, just a couple of spikes under your shoes and a short a little short Yeah, yeah shorts enough to cover it all, you know, how long is it gonna6:20
- take to go up?6:31
- Oh it depends on the mounted a mountain in sunshine is a very nice You can stay for hours.6:33
- There's nothing going on But you will not do that when there is a wind chill of 100 kilometers.6:39
- It's like a whip on You don't stay picnicking while a whip is going on you just want to go as fast as possible And maybe it's not even possible6:44
- the mountain is a mirror of our capacities coming up And we got so much more within us and the mountain will just bring it out But before that is6:55
- going to happen.7:07
- We're gonna prelude it with a nice flash You better be ready.7:07
- Are you ready?7:12
- Do you feel ready?7:13
- Yeah, I don't know what ready for what?7:14
- Yeah Okay, that's exactly what I need in natural expression.7:16
- Let's do this You wanna ring the bells Right off the bat we got a feeling that Wim had no intention of treating us like a regular group Normally he7:21
- begins by teaching his breathing and meditation techniques that allow you to cope with the extreme cold But his most recent study has indicated that this may be possible to7:36
- be achieved all through the power of the mind So instead of training us He thought it'd be an interesting idea for the first day to start off with a7:45
- real -life trial of that study by taking a straight to cliff jumping Into ice water.7:52
- He doesn't usually do this where we go in without any breath work Oh, he doesn't specifically we've been told if you're in water without training that temperature for three7:58
- minutes Your body shuts down.8:06
- Yeah, I mean all he said was to put on frigging choice.8:07
- So I'm assuming we're about to get really cold I'm down for the breathing and the training.8:09
- I'm not down for the jumping with nothing and no training and no breathing Nothing just full -on Noobs.8:14
- All right, we are about to go for our first adventure with Wim to the waterfall We're jumping from six meters up.8:21
- We have never we have not done any training What about frost bites?8:26
- No, no frost bite here.8:38
- That is in the long -term exposure into cold From that is the one where we jump from down into the ice water at zero degrees and floating So it's8:40
- cold and then normal.8:55
- We're about to discover the definition of freezing your nuts off This is fucking insane.8:56
- What are we doing?9:10
- Dude, I've never jumped in cold water.9:12
- Why are we doing a cliff jump?9:15
- Six meters up freezing shallow water Yeah Ah Fuck Ah Ah Yeah, what do you think of the good team good team a bloody good team.9:16
- Yeah, it's just comfort power Power is with us as we were celebrating completing his initiation without us realizing it Wim was carefully watching us and our reactions were about10:20
- to completely determine how our next three days would pan out I've never like pushed my body like that before like every single voice inside your mind is just like10:31
- screaming at you Like are you insane?10:48
- You cannot think about nothing than survive when you are in the cold You don't think about your indulging into your emotion and your broken heart and all those things10:50
- you just gotta survive Thus you learn to control your emotion today when we went to jump off the cliff You said that the anxiety and the fear that we're11:01
- facing is natural Yes, what would you say your relationship with anxiety and fear is today was a great day Because I saw not only me having fun there at11:10
- the waterfall But you all did this ball game is going to be good this coming four days So how i'm dealing with this anxiety.11:20
- There is no anxiety.11:28
- It's only power And that power is going to be ours It's going to be our mind and my challenge these four days is to bring you to the full11:30
- understanding by feeling Of your of the power of your own mind And send that into the world that it is there that we knock on your heaven's door inside11:40
- And that you are the master of your own brain.11:52
- You are the owner of your own brain Got that your own mind Your own happiness strength and health is yours Our first day in poland came to an end11:55
- without training We went to bed hopeful that the next day would finally start preparing for the intense climb up the mountain in three days But when we woke up12:05
- we were told at whim What other plans?12:14
- Normally I don't I go gradually into step by step, but not with this group.12:19
- They are all about discomfort Seeking discomfort is exactly what I needed.12:27
- So we jumped straight into the depth which normally I do Absolutely not it's bringing heart attacks to people because the vascular system is not right But in this case12:33
- I could specifically with this group I want to try out the last study.12:46
- I've shown that it is all in the mind We are built to be happy strong and healthy.12:51
- We got all the tools, but they are not awakened But who is going to wake them up?12:57
- That's us this week.13:03
- We're gonna do Things I've never done because I've been a guinea pig all my life and I changed the books Now I'm going to do that with yes theory13:05
- Here's the plan there is no plan We do whatever whim decides we were supposed to have Do something up here, but apparently we're gonna go downstairs to figure out13:25
- what his plan is If he tells you to jump in the water you jump in the water if he tells you to sleep you sleep If he wants to13:35
- slap you in the face you get slapped in the face.13:41
- That's what a master does Wim told me to do that.13:43
- Wim said it dude.13:48
- Wim fucking said it I woke up at half past three And says then I've been thinking oh shit.13:49
- This is a go and I go a completely different way We don't want a another vice documentary.14:08
- We want something new Right now.14:14
- I'm preparing now 10 minutes ice pad for you guys 10 minutes all of you set your mind the latest study showed We are able to tap into the deepest14:17
- part of the brain just at will we will show and without you How to handle the brain how to handle the mind set your mind Your mind will make14:29
- your body able and survive from a 10 minutes ice pad as a treat We come back up here and we have a great Festival in the sauna and then14:41
- you get food.14:52
- Okay.14:53
- Well one more breath Breath.14:54
- Yeah one half method baby one breath tomorrow.14:56
- We got it do Breathing we make it a shortcut because you guys all from going out of comfort Into the discomfort.14:58
- There is the comfort.15:08
- I will show you what is comfort We're supposed to learn the breathing techniques to cope with the cold today, but he decided To skip that step and just throw15:09
- it straight in the cold and see If we can just with the power of our mind adapt to it What does that mean man, I was freezing when I15:28
- had my toes in the snow I'm supposed to sit in the freaking ice bath.15:39
- Do you know 10 minutes is a very long time?15:42
- Thanks, man.15:44
- Yeah, no idea.15:45
- It's a very long time in ice water.15:46
- The women's method Involves breathing and that's a big part of it and the fact that we're surpassing that and just trying to go straight to the mindset I've never15:48
- done like a full ice bath without the breath.15:58
- If you've never done ice baths, you're not supposed to do it in three minutes Or if you get two to start and we're doing 10 the whole point of16:00
- us being here is to learn And I feel like we're just being thrown into shit and being like the power of your mind Just shut up and do it16:09
- when your house is on fire.16:19
- You run fast You don't need to think you go because adrenaline is there So it's like the house is on fire.16:21
- It's not on fire But you are on fire follow me in this and it's going to happen Begin to doubt and it is something else is going on So16:29
- is there something physically I do or something mentally that I need to do to like Center my mind just a follow the breath Okay Here you are the only16:38
- thing is don't interfere what the body is able to do with what the body is able to do Adaptation meditation is dynamic.16:49
- It's real.16:57
- It's a deeper part of the brain Having a sufficient blood flow now they study mindfulness research And they saw that within 10 minutes what we do People even after16:58
- years of training in mindfulness are not able to get into now Put the signs out of there and get back to your sense.17:11
- You are the one in command over yourself You got that?17:18
- Three minutes is hypothermia, right?17:23
- Yeah, and we're doing 10 minutes without training Let's go Okay, in Alaska we were in the water for probably 30 seconds And I never in my wildest dreams thought17:26
- that I could stay in cold water for three more than like two minutes This is testing every something I've ever made about myself In the cold I hate the17:37
- cold and in a way there's like a method to his madness, you know At first I was I was mad at him.17:46
- I was like, why aren't you training us?17:50
- And then the other part of me after a while thinking about it was like Shit just happens in life and you have no control over it and there's no17:52
- training.17:59
- You just have to Like react the house is on fire.17:59
- What are you going to do?18:03
- Survive actually surviving is something that we never do.18:04
- You never have to survive You know, yeah, you have to survive You're when you're literally got hypothermia like if you lose control over your body, you will literally just18:07
- collapse I'm already freezing you go down put your hands you touch on your thighs Long acceleration and let the body do what the body is able to do.18:18
- George interfere Let it go.18:35
- You got it.18:38
- Yeah.18:39
- Are you ready?18:40
- Yeah, he's just talking to Thomas.18:41
- Let Thomas say it Yes, let's do it.18:43
- Let's do it, baby.18:47
- Let's go Here's what I've come to terms with without training without any of this The only thing we can rely on is our own mind if we can accomplish18:48
- this something that I legitimately think is impossible right now Then we should be able to push our minds Beyond anything else in regular life One Long acceleration I'll do19:00
- it.19:34
- I'll do it.19:35
- I'll do it.19:36
- One exhalation can do this Thomas.19:37
- You come out.19:39
- Pull your arm Long acceleration Long acceleration Oh My hands being numb Get them on your thighs tight Feel the palms of your hands.19:41
- They are warm.20:06
- This is the way you learn how to deal with utmost stress Let it go you are thinking Oh Be brave of my hands Five minutes in The horse is20:07
- over Thomas you got this You got the same right It's getting hotter It's gone together Ha Ha Ha Ha One, two, one, let's go!20:56
- We feel it!21:57
- We feel it!21:58
- Whoa!22:01
- Woo!22:02
- Yes, guys!22:03
- It's a half -jump to go, bro!22:04
- Hello!22:06
- Oh my god, this...22:06
- How do you feel?22:09
- Don't stop breathing, guys.22:14
- Hey, guys!22:17
- Good show, right?22:19
- 10 minutes.22:20
- Like, no preparation, just the power of the mind.22:21
- Dealing with stress.22:24
- Severe stress.22:26
- I have never, ever seen Thomas like in that much pain, in that much discomfort.22:28
- Like, the vein on the side of his neck was just popping.22:32
- I've never seen that suffering on a human's face.22:36
- I'm so proud of Thomas.22:38
- He just feels so alive.22:40
- Like, all your primal instincts just kick in to save you.22:43
- I could do this again.22:47
- I'm just a nice man.22:49
- Not born for this weather, but fuck it.22:50
- Survive anything.22:52
- I can't feel my hands.22:56
- I can't feel my feet.22:58
- Ooh!23:00
- Is it a myth that if you stay a minute and a half to two minutes and freezing water like that, you just get hypothermia?23:01
- There are people who, in kutere, collapse because their vascular system is not right.23:06
- Okay.23:12
- And not in good condition.23:12
- But I prepared you.23:13
- Yeah.23:14
- And you're walking well now.23:15
- Yeah.23:17
- You feel good.23:17
- It's amazing.23:18
- Just 10 minutes.23:19
- No preparation, just the power of the mind.23:20
- Close, close, close.23:23
- It's gonna start getting better.23:26
- It's gonna start getting better.23:28
- This is so painful.23:31
- Your hands around the core are opening up.23:33
- So your extremities, the blood from your extremities and from your arms, your legs are now mixing in with your warm core blood, you know.23:36
- Hello.23:42
- Come.23:43
- Like, you feel the cold blood going through your body.23:45
- It feels, it feels cold.23:47
- It's coming back.23:51
- Like, I did not shiver for a second in the cold water, but here you're like, my entire body is just going...23:52
- Do you want to do it?24:00
- Yes.24:02
- You fucking made it.24:06
- Wow.24:09
- I'm loving it.24:10
- In the water, I was picturing like headlines being like, YouTuber loses his hands in Polish.24:13
- I don't know, I was like so scared for a lot of it.24:20
- Like, I legitimately thought I was gonna get out and no longer have control of my hands.24:23
- So when I get out, I couldn't move them.24:27
- I was looking at my hands and they couldn't, I couldn't fold them in.24:29
- They were stuck here.24:32
- I've never experienced that before.24:33
- Are you proud of yourself though?24:34
- Yeah, definitely.24:36
- I legitimately was convinced I would get out.24:37
- There's several moments when I was like, all right, I'm standing up now.24:39
- And what made you stand?24:41
- Probably you guys, like, looking around, being like, if you guys can do it, I can do it too.24:42
- What do you think, Osamus?24:47
- He sucked.24:48
- No, no, no, no, no, no.24:50
- That's it, that's the end.24:52
- Thomas was great.24:55
- He had an issue, but look how he got with this focus through his trauma, through his issue.24:56
- And you got an issue, you think, looking at this, and then you follow Thomas.25:03
- During this wildly unpredictable day, Wim put us in the ice water five times longer than what he ever usually does with fully trained groups.25:10
- And by the end of it, we were promised that the following morning, Wim was finally going to introduce us to his famous breathing technique to help us cope with25:18
- the cold.25:27
- It's too early for this.25:29
- Let's have some coffee.25:31
- Fuck.25:32
- Right now we're about to do finally the breathing.25:57
- He's going to be leading the team for about 45 minutes.26:00
- Is it 45 minutes?26:03
- Okay, are you relaxed?26:04
- Move your body a little, shake it, you know.26:07
- Get the shit out.26:12
- I'm here, I'm here.26:13
- I wake up.26:15
- I'm going to do my best, and everybody is going to possibly do three minutes without air in the lungs.26:16
- So think and feel as if you fill up your belly through your mouth or nose, doesn't matter.26:23
- Fully in.26:30
- Then the chest, and then into your head, and then you let it go.26:32
- Belly, chest, heart, let it go.26:38
- Belly, chest, head, let it go.26:43
- Belly, chest, head, let it go.26:48
- Fully in, like the sea, waves on the shore.26:54
- And let it go.26:59
- Let it go.27:01
- This is round number one.27:03
- If you feel light, head it, loosen the body, tingling.27:04
- It's all alright.27:07
- Breathe into it.27:09
- Intensify, whatever you feel.27:12
- Intensify, and three, fully in.27:14
- As we're finally starting to learn the method, I think it might be a good time to explain what it consists of.27:20
- There's three main components, breathing, meditation, and gradual cold exposure.27:26
- And its main objective is to awaken the deeper parts of the brain that Wim claims we've lost control over.27:31
- First, Wim's meditation technique differs from traditional practices by preparing the mind and body to stay strong and calm during situations of stress when the fight -or -flight response is27:37
- activated.27:47
- He then gradually takes people through cold exposure.27:48
- Countless independent studies have shown that cold exposure boosts the immune system and decreases inflammation in the body, which is also why pro -athletes use it all the time for27:52
- recovery, but Wim believes the cold can do so much more.28:01
- And lastly, his breathing technique is designed to take deep inhales and gentler exhales in order to take in more air than we're letting out.28:05
- This allows your body to function at a higher level than normal and can get you to hold your breath for three to four minutes.28:13
- This process can in some cases cause a wide variety of physical and emotional responses.28:19
- Music It's alright.28:35
- It's alright.28:56
- It's okay.28:58
- Okay?28:59
- Okay?29:00
- Or!29:02
- Or!29:03
- Or!29:04
- Or!29:05
- Or!29:07
- Or!29:07
- Or!29:08
- Or!29:08
- Or!29:09
- Or!29:11
- Or!29:11
- Or!29:12
- Or!29:12
- Or!29:13
- Or!29:15
- Or!29:16
- Or!29:19
- Or!29:21
- Or!29:22
- Okay, relax, relax.29:23
- Hold okay, hold okay.29:28
- Breathe, good and relax.29:34
- It's deep enough.29:39
- And three, pull the head, letting go.29:41
- Two, pull the head, letting go.29:45
- One, pull the head, letting go.29:51
- Relax guys, relax.29:58
- It's all right.30:01
- The blood has been outclassed.30:02
- All good.30:07
- At some point I was just just completely out of my body.30:14
- I feel amazing.30:18
- I've never been able to like hold my breath longer than like 45 seconds.30:20
- So holding it for three minutes was like trippy.30:24
- It felt like 10 seconds.30:27
- Like you lose track of time.30:30
- Like I'm holding my breath and then he's like, good that's three minutes.30:31
- I was like, whoa that felt like 20 seconds.30:35
- When you were holding the breath for like three minutes I saw his hand was like like a little bit like that.30:37
- So I just started filming and so he was like, his eyes were like rolled up and I thought he had like a seizure in him.30:42
- That was scary.30:49
- Finally I came back and I looked at Andreas and Andreas was like, what the fuck just happened?30:51
- As we thought we were finally going through the full Wim Hof method, he decided to fully flip the script again and skip the rest of the training and go31:00
- straight to the mountain.31:08
- Today, shut the fuck up and let's climb this mountain.31:10
- It's about do it.31:14
- Leave the mountain alone with your pathetic thoughts over done.31:15
- And now we go up the mountain and do it.31:20
- Buddy already knows what it is going up against.31:23
- It is so cold outside and it's snowing and we're about to climb this mountain.31:29
- Hopefully we'll make it to the top.31:36
- Go, go, go.31:39
- So Wim decided to completely reverse the whole setup for us.31:45
- So he started with showing us the power of our minds and then training us.31:49
- But even with all of that he still decided to skip day three of training, which is usually more breath work and like kind of ice baths and take us31:54
- straight up the mountain.32:00
- They've never done this with a group before, ever.32:01
- And all the groups they've had here for training is the first time he's done it like this and it's like we're the guinea pigs for it.32:04
- I mean the only thing we can rely on is ourselves at this point, like any other, right?32:09
- Like it's just this is all like the verge of being reckless.32:14
- I mean it is pretty much reckless and I think he even acknowledges it, but I guess we'll see where recklessness can take us.32:17
- Climb the mountain already here.32:31
- Like a spikes baby.32:34
- Let's fucking go.32:38
- Hey man, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow and let us go.32:41
- Pap talk.32:48
- So that's what we do.32:49
- Yeah, let's go.32:50
- Hey, Pap talk is over man.32:51
- We are just gonna do it.32:52
- So here it is and you guys know what to do.32:54
- Yeah.32:57
- What is it?32:57
- One step, another one, another one and then we reach the top.32:59
- This is it.33:04
- We're just having a roll.33:04
- Fuck.33:06
- Now we're never.33:06
- Thomas's fuck is the funniest thing.33:09
- Dude, nobody's even skiing.33:14
- That's how cold and snowy it is.33:15
- That thing is cold.33:18
- It's hot.33:19
- It's hot.33:20
- It's hot.33:21
- How does this make any fucking sense?33:27
- Somebody tell me please.33:29
- No, it doesn't.33:31
- None of it does.33:32
- We picked today where's the worst wetter conditions possible.33:33
- No shit.33:36
- Dude, my mom is just gonna wash this and she's gonna fucking kill me.33:37
- Fuck are we doing?33:54
- It's minus fucking three or four Celsius climbing a freaking mountain in Poland.33:55
- We could be in Hawaii right now.34:00
- Could be in Hawaii.34:02
- Fuck it.34:04
- We're across anyone right now coming up or down.34:15
- They think we're freaking women.34:18
- It's just like eight people shirtless walking up this freezing mountain.34:21
- I mean, maybe we should take that wise and just stop.34:25
- Okay, just focus on like one step at a time.34:31
- That's the only thing that works for me right now.34:33
- I think about the fucking two hours ahead of us makes me very sad.34:35
- I will not stop.34:55
- Just go on.34:57
- Fourth of the way there.34:59
- I'm starting to feel it on my back mostly, but just trying to focus on the breathing and just follow Whim's footsteps.35:01
- Keeps you distracted just thinking of your breath.35:09
- This is like slow pain whereas the ice bath was instant shock.35:11
- And so if you keep your calm, I think you can make it up.35:14
- I feel great.35:35
- Good.35:37
- My element.35:38
- Nature.35:39
- In nature.35:40
- It's a power of the moment.35:41
- Coming to you in a subtly debate body is able to do so much more.35:44
- So the ice bath was sharp.36:02
- Just like a punch.36:07
- Whereas this is getting colder and colder.36:08
- And because we're climbing up a mountain as well, we're getting more tired, a little bit more altitude.36:12
- Oh, do you feel that?36:18
- That's a whip straight to the chest.36:22
- This fresh snow is not helping the situation though.36:28
- It's the fingers.36:31
- They're like blocks.36:33
- So fucking wind.36:49
- We just got to the point where the wind is really starting to catch up and there's snow hitting your heart.36:52
- It's so cold.37:00
- Look at these trees.37:01
- This is so crazy.37:03
- Let's go Max.37:16
- Oh my god.37:20
- We're about 1900 meters in elevation.37:37
- It's just almost like it's over.37:39
- It's 5800 feet.37:41
- And at this point the snow, this one still goes up all the way here.37:43
- So it's almost impossible.37:47
- Can't feel my lips anymore.37:49
- Can't feel my hands.37:50
- But other than that, the internals are still warm.37:51
- Thomas is gone.37:54
- Thomas just wants to fucking run down there.37:55
- And I second that.37:57
- Let's go.37:58
- A few hundred meters from the mountain summit, we got stuck.37:58
- The snow levels were getting up to our waist and making the call to continue the trek to the top became extremely unsafe amidst the intensifying weather conditions.38:02
- We should be sensible about this.38:11
- Together with the wind chill, it is 4 to minus 20.38:14
- And it is impossible to go up.38:18
- The snow is going to be here.38:22
- We bloody did it.38:24
- We bloody did it.38:26
- Continuing past this point would have put us in real danger.38:27
- But in our eyes and in Wim's eyes, we did it.38:30
- It took us a silent climb down of reflection and a day of warming back up to fully understand the purpose of all the pain.38:43
- Crazy like a monkey.38:51
- Crazy like a monkey.38:53
- Max, I will fucking kill you.38:55
- What we began to realize is that Wim's objective this entire week hadn't been to teach us his method, but instead to show us that even without it, the human38:57
- mind is capable of so much more than we ever thought possible.39:06
- That we were capable of so much more than we thought possible.39:11
- And that no matter what challenge we're going through in our lives, we should never lose hope and underestimate our ability to shine and find the strength within us to39:15
- succeed.39:24
- We spent the morning after the climb doing a group reflection with Wim and he decided to end our trip where it all began.39:24
- I wanted to complete the make it full circle and so now I want to empty this ritualistic.39:31
- Basically he wants us to take these torches, light them up and walk back to that waterfall that you guys that everybody jumped off the first day.39:39
- Normally I go and do not exceed no longer than two minutes in ice water immersion.39:46
- You guys did five times.39:54
- You guys jumped directly from seven meters down even gainers I saw.39:56
- Hey, what was going on here?40:03
- Because you have three years of working together or even more.40:05
- Always going into discomfort.40:09
- That means you have gone out of the normal way of thinking and that made you for me perfect to be my guinea pigs for new research, pioneering because we40:12
- got a revolutionized something in this world and show that we are made of much more than we think.40:26
- And for that we have to dive into the depth.40:33
- And for that you got fear right now because this is normal.40:36
- This is nature.40:42
- This is for the guys who venture, who pioneer, who go past their fear and their controlled way of thinking.40:43
- They go past and show new ways, new directions and that was the aim of these last four days.40:52
- You guys did bloody great to unlock your potential.41:00
- We have given ourselves fully the last four days to show new directions past fear.41:05
- In past fear there is a lot more coming to us.41:12
- You are the new generation, you are the youth, you got to change this world.41:16
- Now unlock your own power of your own mind because it's so beautiful.41:21
A Documentary Narration on Wim Hof for English Speaking Practice
This clip narrates the story of Wim Hof, the Ice Man, describing his cold endurance records and the scientific studies built around his method. At B1 level and a pace of 156 words per minute, faster than most of the catalogue, it moves quickly enough to make good english speaking practice without outrunning an intermediate listener. The accent here is mixed, so you get exposure to more than one voice pattern in a single recording.
The 469 lines cover the setup: who Wim Hof is, what he has done physically, and how scientists have started studying him. It stays factual and descriptive rather than a back and forth conversation, which makes it a solid choice for english listening practice if you want to hear information delivered clearly at a pace you have to keep up with.
How the Narrator's Pace Tests Your English Pronunciation
The lines below move fast and pack long phrases into single breaths, which is exactly what makes them worth repeating out loud if you want to speak english fluently.
- "He might well be one of the most unique humans currently alive": a long stretch to say smoothly at speed, good for practising stress across a long noun phrase.
- "How is it possible for a human being to be exposed in an ice bath for one hour and 44 minutes?": a full question with a number folded into it, useful for hearing how the pitch keeps rising across a long clause instead of dropping early.
- "We saw less fever.": short and blunt, a useful contrast right after the longer lines around it.
- The recording also uses "gonna" several times elsewhere in the clip, one of the everyday reductions worth catching if you want to improve your english accent.
How to Shadow This Wim Hof Clip Line by Line
Work through the opening in order rather than jumping around. Each line below sits at a point where the pace or the phrasing changes, so taking them one at a time keeps the english shadowing practice honest instead of skimming the easy parts.
- Start with "He might well be one of the most unique humans currently alive": say it slowly once, then match the narrator's speed on the second try.
- Move to the ice bath question, "How is it possible for a human being to be exposed in an ice bath for one hour and 44 minutes?", and keep the question rising all the way through instead of dropping early.
- Take "We saw less fever" and "He had less flu like symptoms" back to back. They are short, so they let you check whether you are keeping pace before the longer lines return.
- Finish with "leaving the world confused and us like many others Fascinated", and read it as one connected phrase rather than three separate words.
