How to learn English with series

Learning English with TV series works when you stop watching and start repeating. Each scene here is cut to a length you can shadow, with the full transcript underneath.

  • Pick one character and take only their lines. Copying two people at once copies neither.
  • Take the delivery with the words. In a sitcom the timing carries the meaning.
  • Watch the scene once for the story, then close your eyes and work on the sound.
  • Repeat the scene across several days. Series dialogue is short enough to memorise, and memorised lines become fluent ones.

Why TV shows are good for everyday English

Sitcoms and dramas run on the English people actually speak at home and at work, which is exactly the register most courses skip.

  • Half sentences, jokes and interruptions, the natural shape of conversation.
  • Recurring characters, so the same voice and the same accent keep coming back.
  • Everyday vocabulary and slang in context rather than in a list.
  • Scenes graded A1 and A2 if you are starting out.
