IELTS speaking practice topics you can shadow at home

Two of the four things the IELTS examiner marks are fluency and pronunciation, and both improve by speaking rather than by reading about speaking. Shadowing model answers is the cheapest way to practise them alone.

  • Shadow model answers before you improvise your own. Borrowed rhythm becomes your rhythm once it is in your mouth.
  • Use the fillers. Well, I suppose and to be honest buy you time and cost you no marks.
  • Keep talking through the long turn. A restart costs more than a dull sentence.
  • Record yourself and compare against the clip. Self assessment is the part most candidates skip.
