How to practise English speaking with a podcast
Podcasts are the loosest English in the catalogue: nobody is reading from a page. That makes them the best material for spoken fluency and the hardest to shadow cold.
- Keep the hesitations. You know, I mean and sort of are how a real English answer is built.
- Take the reply, not the question. Questions are easy, answers are where the language is.
- One clip is enough for a session. Unscripted speech is dense to copy.
- Read the transcript once before shadowing if the speaker is fast.
What podcast clips give you
Real conversation between adults, cut into pieces short enough to repeat, each with a full transcript.
- Natural spoken English with all the reductions intact.
- Opinion and argument language, the register interviews and exams ask for.
- Long form listening practice without the commitment of a whole episode.
Practise these clips out loud
Open any clip to shadow it line by line in the browser. The app adds the pronunciation score, the vocabulary and your streak.
Free: 15 lines a day, the full catalogue and bilingual subtitles. Pro removes the limit.
