  4. Couple more times.1:03
  5. Inhale, find what feels good here.1:04
  6. And exhale, create space.1:09
  7. One more time.1:14
  8. Inhale, squeeze to the max.1:15
  9. And exhale, create space.1:20
  10. Awesome.1:24
  11. Take your right ear over your right shoulder.1:25
  12. Breathe, ground down through the elbows.1:28
  13. Lift it back to center and to the other side.1:32
  14. Left ear over left shoulder.1:35
  15. Draw down through the elbows.1:37
  16. Great, bring it back to center.1:42
  17. And we're going to come into a little Mujah here as we prepare for alternate nostril breathing.1:45
  18. So this is my number one.1:50
  19. If you don't have time for the whole video, at least have time for this Pranayama technique which I really do think is like a magic elixir for those, for1:51
  20. when I'm feeling anxious, if you ever feel like you are in a kind of panic attack moment or anything like that, you just need to de -stress, balance out.2:00
  21. This is the one for you, my friends.2:14
  22. So we're going to take the kind of hang loose sign here.2:16
  23. It's kind of like this.2:19
  24. And we're just going to bring it to the ring finger and the thumb.2:20
  25. So you bring the two -piece fingers in.2:24
  26. Or if that's difficult for you, you can also do your middle finger and your thumb.2:27
  27. So we have your thumb and an extra finger here.2:33
  28. And we have a whole video on alternate nostril breathing.2:37
  29. So if you're new to this and you want to go ahead and learn the technique first, you can pause it and click on that, open it up in another2:41
  30. window, and it's really lovely.2:47
  31. But to honor your time, we're just going to hop right in and so you can practice this regularly.2:50
  32. So thumb's going to come to the right nostril.2:54
  33. You sit up nice and tall and breathe in through the left nostril.2:56
  34. Keep the shoulders relaxed.3:04
  35. As you pause at the top, we switch, covering the left nostril, breathing out through the right nostril.3:06
  36. Inhale in through the right nostril.3:17
  37. Always holding, pausing at the top to switch.3:23
  38. Exhale out through the left nostril.3:27
  39. Inhale in.3:33
  40. Alternating at the top.3:37
  41. Exhale.3:39
  42. Inhale.3:45
  43. And alternating at the top.3:53
  44. Exhale.3:55
  45. Keep it going.3:59
  46. Nice, easy, smooth breaths.4:24
  47. Again, alternating at the top.4:31
  48. After a little bit of experiment, you find a rhythm that works good for you, a hand mudra that works good for you.4:41
  49. On the even and out here, really commit.5:12
  50. Then gently release both hands down.5:26
  51. Take a deep breath in through both nostrils and out through both nostrils.5:29
  52. Slowly open the eyes.5:40
  53. Amazing, and notice how you feel.5:44
  54. Great.5:49
  55. From here, we're going to move on to all fours.5:50
  56. But take this sense, whatever the breath did to you, maybe nothing, but just take one thing and add it on.5:52
  57. We're staying present in the moment, but we're kind of allowing ourselves to change the course of things, right?5:58
  58. Trying to let go of the stress, the anxiety in the body, that breath so lovely for the nervous system.6:04
  59. So keep it soft and easy as you come to all fours here, my sweet friends.6:10
  60. Be kind to yourself.6:15
  61. And we'll move into a little cat cow.6:17
  62. This should feel awesome.6:25
  63. We've already connected the brain and the breath and the alternate nostril breathing, Nadi Shodhana.6:27
  64. It's a purifying breath.6:36
  65. So keep nice, long, smooth, deep breaths here as you now begin to integrate the spine, which is also connected to the brain.6:38
  66. So when the brain is a mess, it is so beneficial to do spinal work, even something as simple and delicious as cat cow.6:45
  67. Awesome.7:07
  68. From here, I'm going to curl the toes under.7:08
  69. Walk the palms slightly forward.7:10
  70. Nice and easy.7:13
  71. Inhale in.7:14
  72. On an exhale, lift the hips downward facing down.7:16
  73. So connect to your strength here, but keep a softness.7:19
  74. Press into the palms.7:23
  75. Take care of the wrists.7:25
  76. Bend the knees.7:26
  77. Inhale in.7:28
  78. Exhale, lowering back down.7:30
  79. Awesome.7:34
  80. Press into the tops of the feet.7:35
  81. Walk the wrists back underneath the shoulders.7:37
  82. Then inhale.7:40
  83. Keep the right palm where it is here and we're going to open the left fingertips out.7:41
  84. So just go as far as you can before you feel a pinch in the back body.7:45
  85. Opening.7:49
  86. Inhale.7:50
  87. Exhale.7:51
  88. Left palm down.7:52
  89. Right fingertips reach up.7:53
  90. So it might not be all the way here is what I'm trying to say.7:55
  91. It might just be here or even here as you inhale.7:57
  92. Open up through the chest.7:59
  93. Exhale.8:01
  94. Again, to the left.8:03
  95. Inhale.8:05

  97. Exhale.8:08

  114. And the right hand is going to come over to kiss the left hand.8:53
  115. So maybe they come one on top of each other.8:58
  116. Breathe into the right shoulder, the right side body.9:01
  117. Pull back gently with the right hip crease and breathe deeply.9:05
  118. And now through center and to the right.9:16

  199. And so take your time as you arrive.12:46
  200. Your strong, grounded, beautiful warrior II.12:49
  201. So a little work on the feet.12:54

  209. So good for the body here.13:12
  210. Full body experience.13:14
  211. Energy radiating.13:15
  212. Then keep the front knee bent, my friends, best you can.13:18
  213. And send the left fingertips forward, up, and back.13:21
  214. As you can see, my right hand's coming around.13:24
  215. It can stand the small of the back here.13:26
  216. Or reach around to the top of the left hip crease.13:28
  217. Keep the front knee bent as you inhale.13:31
  218. And exhale.13:33

  227. Nice, you got it.13:52
  228. Inhale one last time.13:54
  229. And exhale.13:56
  230. Continue this journey.13:57
  231. Melt it all the way down into your extended side angle.13:59
  232. Lean back, everyone.14:04

  234. Big breath.14:11
  235. Strong connection to the earth.14:13

  238. We come back to our lunge.14:26
  239. We plant the palms.14:28
  240. Again, you can move through a vinyasa here.14:30

  242. In down dog, back to that cleansing breath.14:39
  243. Take a big inhale in through the nostrils.14:41
  244. And exhale out through the mouth.14:44
  245. Great, drop the left heel.14:48

  247. This time come to Warrior I, nice and strong.14:52
  248. Reach the fingertips up high.14:59
  249. Press into the outer edge of the back foot.15:01
  250. Then inhale, look up.15:03
  251. Exhale, ring the fingertips down.15:04
  252. Stay strong in your front leg.15:06
  253. Hug energy into the midline here for stability.15:08
  254. I'm going to step back a little bit here.15:14
  255. So draw the knuckles down and away.15:15
  256. And as you inhale in, find that lift in the heart extension through the crown.15:17
  257. As you exhale, lift your left heel up.15:21
  258. Stay soft and bent in the front knee.15:24
  259. And we're going to play with a little Warrior III.15:26
  260. So you might just come to hear big toe on the earth.15:28
  261. Keep your focus out in front, neck nice and long.15:33
  262. Inhale in, exhale.15:36
  263. Maybe you begin to lift through the left inner thigh.15:38
  264. Maybe you come to hear right away.15:40
  265. Or maybe again you're growing this.15:44
  266. And so we keep big toe on the earth.15:46
  267. Stay connected.15:51
  268. Ah, the mind begins to clear.15:52
  269. We begin to focus on the sensations of the body as you lift through the left inner thigh.15:53
  270. You can stay here.15:57
  271. You can release with control to airplane arms.15:59
  272. Or maybe you take the fingertips all the way forward.16:03
  273. Wherever you are, full body experience.16:07
  274. Breathe deep.16:10
  275. And then slowly make your way back to Warrior I.16:14
  276. Inhale in, smile.16:18
  277. Exhale, let it go.16:20
  278. Back to the lunge.16:23
  279. Optional vinyasa here.16:24
  280. Take it or leave it.16:25
  281. Then to Downward Facing Dog.16:27
  282. Beautiful.16:31
  283. Drop the right heel.16:33
  284. Lift the left leg up high.16:34
  285. Inhale.16:36
  286. Exhale, stepping through.16:38
  287. Find Warrior I.16:40
  288. Take your time.16:43
  289. Strong legs.16:46
  290. When you're ready, reach the fingertips up high.16:48
  291. Ground down through the shoulders.16:52
  292. Connect to the sensations in the body today.16:55
  293. Stay present.16:58
  294. Inhale in.17:00
  295. Exhale, rain it down.17:01
  296. Interlace.17:04
  297. This time, maybe opposite them on top.17:05
  298. So the one that feels kind of weird.17:07
  299. And knuckles are all down and away as we open the heart.17:08
  300. Welcome that heat, that aliveness that's starting to maybe glisten on your forehead or your lip.17:12
  301. Stay strong and grounded to the earth.17:20
  302. You got this.17:22
  303. Inhale, look up.17:24
  304. On an exhale, begin to slowly stay bent in the front leg.17:26
  305. Lift on to the right big toe.17:30
  306. Again, maybe this is your pose today.17:33
  307. Yes.17:35
  308. Working on balance, stability.17:37
  309. I'm here.17:39
  310. I love myself.17:39
  311. I got this.17:40
  312. Maybe we take it a step further by softening through the back knee.17:42
  313. Beginning to lift up.17:46
  314. Maybe even further.17:49
  315. Maybe even further.17:51
  316. Lifting up through the right inner thigh if you are lifted.17:52
  317. Finding extension through the crown.17:54
  318. Wherever you are, focus on your breath, the sensations in your body.17:57
  319. Clear your mind of any stress, of any anxiety, any worry.18:00
  320. Focus on connecting to your strength right here, right now.18:06
  321. So even if you fall, you come back.18:11
  322. Come back to the practice.18:14
  323. Come back to the midline.18:15
  324. Maybe you release the fingertips with control.18:17
  325. So resist the fling shot effect and find airplane arms.18:19
  326. And maybe you reach it forward.18:25
  327. Nice strong breaths.18:30
  328. Everyone wherever you are, be there fully with your breath.18:31
  329. Then slowly take your practice back to Warrior I.18:40
  330. Inhale, look up.18:44
  331. Exhale, shake it off.18:46
  332. Take it all the way back down.18:49
  333. Last chance for a vinyasa.18:51
  334. Feel free to take it or leave it.18:52
  335. Moving through a heart opener if it feels good.18:56
  336. And then we'll all make our way to extended child's pose.19:02
  337. Bring the big toes together.19:07
  338. Melt the heart back.19:09
  339. Bring the palms together and then up and over the head.19:12
  340. Gently crawl the elbows forward a hair.19:18
  341. Stretch through the side body, the shoulder.19:20
  342. Take a deep breath in and exhale.19:24
  343. Let everything go.19:28
  344. Surrender here, pranam.19:31
  345. Breathe into the back body.19:40
  346. Close your eyes.19:42
  347. Just take a second to bow to the big picture.19:44
  348. To surrender to that which is out of your control.19:49
  349. And to connect to a little sense of peace and love within.19:57
  350. Slowly we'll drop the fingertips back to the mat.20:12
  351. Plant the palms in nice and easy rise up.20:15
  352. Walk the knees into center.20:20
  353. Carefully cross the ankles and use your fingertips to help guide yourself all the way back to a seat.20:22
  354. And we'll extend the legs out long.20:29
  355. Heels in line with the hips.20:31
  356. If you're a little bit tight in the hips in the lower body, we can maybe lift the hips up on a blanket or block here if that feels good.20:35
  357. And then we'll inhale, reach towards the sky.20:42
  358. Ground down through the tops of the thighs.20:45
  359. And then exhale, reaching forward.20:48
  360. So this will look a little different for everyone.20:51
  361. It might be here for you.20:53
  362. Keeping the neck and the spine nice and long.20:55
  363. It might be here.20:59
  364. It might be here.21:02
  365. So find your forward fold.21:04
  366. Again, very helpful to lift the hips up a little bit here.21:07
  367. Eventually find a sense of surrender here again.21:11
  368. Rounding through the spine.21:14
  369. Eventually the neck stretching nice and yummy.21:15
  370. Here's you bow the head.21:19
  371. And bend the knees as generously as you need to here.21:23
  372. No need to kind of hit this perfect little yoga shape today.21:26
  373. Just store any day for that matter.21:30
  374. Find what feels good.21:33
  375. Find the layer of breath.21:38
  376. And then slowly we'll release.21:55
  377. And come to lie flat on the back.21:57
  378. When you arrive, go ahead and hug the knees into the chest.22:02
  379. And then release the left foot to the ground and the right foot to the left foot.22:08
  380. And then bring the right leg up high.22:11
  381. Cross the right ankle over the left.22:13
  382. Interlace the fingertips behind the back of the left thigh.22:15
  383. And then bring your left foot onto an imaginary wall here.22:19
  384. So press against the wall.22:22
  385. Then we'll be into squeeze and pull.22:23
  386. Breathing deep here in a little reclined one -legged pigeon.22:28
  387. Neck is nice and long so your chin is lifted.22:31
  388. See if you can tuck it in a little bit.22:33
  389. Breathing deep here.22:36
  390. Mmm.22:42
  391. Great.22:44
  392. Then send the left leg up high.22:45
  393. Just a little hamstring bonus here.22:46
  394. One more breath.22:48
  395. And then nice and easy with control.22:50
  396. Right?22:53
  397. So again, is this the slingshot effect?22:53
  398. With control, send the left right leg up to meet the left.22:55
  399. And then I'm going to reach both fingertips towards the outer edges.23:00
  400. And I'm going to pulse here.23:03
  401. Keep the shoulders relaxed.23:06
  402. Palms facing each other.23:08
  403. Tailbone scooping up towards the sky.23:10
  404. Oh my God, creaky old floor.23:13
  405. Oh my God, we have a creaky floor here.23:18
  406. Yay, everything's in alignment.23:20
  407. See, sometimes when you move it just takes a while, right?23:22
  408. Take it to the left pulse.23:25
  409. Creaky old floor.23:29
  410. That's for all the YWA members who have been with me for a while.23:31
  411. And to the right, here we go.23:36
  412. Miss that creaky old floor.23:38
  413. But we have one here.23:40
  414. Oh my gosh.23:42
  415. And then back to center.23:42
  416. Five, four, three, two, and release.23:44
  417. Yay.23:48
  418. You never know when you're going to make new discoveries.23:48
  419. Right foot to the ground.23:50
  420. Left leg up high.23:52
  421. Crossing the left ankle over the right.23:55
  422. Inner lace.24:00
  423. Who would have thought a creaky floor could bring so much joy to someone?24:01
  424. Okay.24:05
  425. Chin parallel to the ceiling.24:06
  426. Flex your right foot.24:07
  427. So chances are you know the shape right, but the feet just kind of hang dead like.24:09
  428. So keep a little aliveness here.24:13
  429. And then squeeze.24:15
  430. Again, tuck your chin into your chest.24:20
  431. And then creaky old floor aside.24:26
  432. I need you to close your eyes.24:28
  433. And I would like to invite you to feel supported.24:30
  434. Your spine supported here.24:33
  435. The weight of your body supported by the earth.24:36
  436. Keep breathing.24:41
  437. And then extend that right leg up.24:44
  438. Great.24:50
  439. Slowly unravel.24:51
  440. Left foot joining the right.24:53
  441. This time we inner lace fingertips behind the head.24:56
  442. Inhale in.24:59
  443. Exhale, lift the head, then act the shoulders.25:02
  444. Press into the heels.25:05
  445. Inhale, lower.25:07
  446. Exhale, lift.25:09
  447. Inhale, lower.25:11
  448. Exhale, lift.25:13
  449. Keep the elbows wide.25:14
  450. Keep it going.25:16
  451. Inhale, lower.25:20
  452. Exhale, lift.25:22
  453. Extend the thumbs.25:23
  454. Nice little neck hammock here.25:24
  455. And three more.25:32
  456. Scooping the tailbone up.25:35
  457. And last one, you got it.25:39
  458. And release.25:44
  459. Soup to Bada Kanasana.25:45
  460. Ah, we lit the fire in our belly after all.25:47
  461. Show me the shoulders underneath the heart here.25:50
  462. Maybe give you a little belly of head.25:55
  463. Inhale, lots of love in.25:58
  464. Exhale, close your eyes.26:01
  465. Begin to allow your breath to return back to a natural rhythm here.26:08
  466. And then when you're ready, we'll peel the arms out wide.26:16
  467. And slide the legs out long.26:21
  468. Allow your body to grow heavy.26:31
  469. Even if you don't have time for a long Shavasana, take a second here to let the body settle and rest.26:33
  470. To allow the nutrients of your practice to seep in, to settle in.26:41
  471. Then notice how you feel.26:51
  472. Inhale.26:53
  473. And slowly draw the palms together.27:05
  474. Bring them to your third eye.27:08
  475. And we seal the deal by saying Namaste, which is honoring the best and most beautiful version of ourself.27:12
  476. Seeing that, honoring that in oneself and then also in others.27:22
  477. Take good care of my friends.27:29
  478. Choose the light.27:33
  479. Let it go.27:35
  480. Namaste.27:37
  481. Namaste.27:51

An A2 yoga narration for english listening practice at a real pace

This clip is Adriene from Yoga With Adriene guiding a beginner sequence for anxiety, alone in front of the camera, in a clear American accent. It sits at A2, so the vocabulary is simple even where the yoga terms are not, and the delivery runs at 196 words per minute, quick enough that you have to keep up rather than wait for gaps.

Nothing here is scripted dialogue. It is one voice narrating breath and movement as they happen, which makes it good raw material for english listening practice: you hear an instruction, then the action it describes, so you can check your own understanding against what follows a second later. It also works as american accent training, since the same handful of vowel sounds and stress patterns repeat across dozens of short cues.

Lines to shadow this line for beginner english speaking practice

Three moments from the opening are worth slowing down for. Quote them exactly as Adriene says them, including the parts that are a little rough, because that roughness is what makes a real recording useful practice.

  • "Hey guys, welcome to Yoko with Adriene." The channel name comes out sounding almost like "Yoko" here, a small reduction worth noticing if you are trying to improve your english accent: fast, casual American speech blurs unstressed syllables together.
  • "You've started the video, you're here, the hard part is over." Three short clauses run together with almost no pause, a good line for practising rhythm rather than individual words.
  • "As you breathe in, draw the shoulders up to the ears." The comma after "in" is where the pitch resets before the instruction; say the line twice, once stopping fully at the comma and once barely pausing, and hear how differently it lands.
  • "Alright, let's begin in a nice comfortable seat." "Let's begin" is said as one smooth unit, useful if you are working on speaking english fluently rather than word by word.

A line by line order for shadowing this A2 narration

Work the first minute of this video in a fixed order rather than jumping around. At 196 words per minute the lines pass quickly, so a repeatable sequence matters more than it would in a slower clip.

  • Start with line 1, "Hey guys, welcome to Yoko with Adriene," on its own, five times, until the blurred channel name stops tripping you up.
  • Move to line 8, "You've started the video, you're here, the hard part is over," and say it as three beats, not three sentences: no breath between the clauses.
  • Take lines 11 and 12 together, "As you breathe in, draw the shoulders up to the ears" and its exhale counterpart, since they share the same shape and let you drill the comma pause once and reuse it.
  • Finish with line 6, "Alright, let's begin in a nice comfortable seat," aiming to match the pace of the full clip rather than your own slower default.
  • Once those four hold up at full speed, run lines 1 to 20 straight through without stopping. That stretch is where the narration settles into its rhythm, and it is a fair test of whether the A2 vocabulary is actually easy for you at 196 words per minute or only easy when you read it.
