Shadowing practice: Dolores knows the Secrets of Bruno's vision || Encanto 2021 Disney

This clip is rated A2 and runs at 200 words per minute, faster than 61% of the catalogue, which makes it a good stretch for american accent training once you can already follow slower dialogue. The speakers are Mirabel and her father, then the whole Madrigal family at a dinner with the Guzmans.

The scene turns twice. First it is urgent and private: Mirabel admits she "broke into Bruno's tower." and lists what is going wrong, "The magic is dying." Then her father shuts it down with "We say nothing." and "Just act normal.", and the family sits down to a dinner full of toasts and small talk. Practising both registers back to back, a tense confession and light table chat, is useful english speaking practice because your mouth has to shift pace and pitch in the same minute.

A few lines here reward a closer listen before you shadow this line out loud.

• "She's gonna tell everyone." The only reduced form in this clip: gonna instead of going to. Say it fast and flat, it carries the worry of the whole scene in three words.
• "Till the Guzmans leave, you did not break into Bruno's tower." A long, tangled instruction from the father. The comma splits it into a time clause and a flat denial, and the stress lands hard on did not.
• "The magic is not dying, the house is not breaking, Luisa's gift is not fading." Three negatives in a row, same shape each time. Once you can say one, the other two are the same mouth movement with a new subject.

Work the lines in this order rather than the whole clip at once.

• Start with the short bursts: "Mirabu!" "Pa!" "I..." These carry pauses and interruptions, so shadow the silence as much as the words.
• Move to the confession block, lines 6 to 11, and say each short sentence with rising urgency, ending on "And I think it's all because of..." then the single word answer "me?"
• Isolate "She's gonna tell everyone." and repeat it until gonna comes out in one breath, not as two separate words.
• Take the triple negative line, "The magic is not dying, the house is not breaking, Luisa's gift is not fading.", slowly first, then at the clip's own 200 words per minute.
• Close with the dinner exchanges, "Salud!" "Avocado." "The cream, please." "Poppy cream?" These are quick, everyday english conversation practice, closer to real table talk than the confession half of the scene.
